We started with a beef congee, a rice porrrridge that cooks and thickens over a few hours- a home style comfort food. Although there were one or two steam carts the majority of the food came from a numbered picture menu that we checked off. Many of the 63 dishes are made with rice noodles or wrappers. Kids are part of the family- you will not get side eye for bringing them! Grandparents too! The elderly are respected and no shade for a wheelchair! Really with this type of lunch the more the merrier! On the picture menu there were 4 choices labeled vegetarian, and of course a stir fried vegetable could also be ordered. Dim Sum is a traditional family meal and many of the square tables have flaps that are folded down that can expand the size of the table to a really large round table- so big that a revolving centerpiece is placed in the middle so all the shared dishes are accessible to everyone at the table. No one blinks an eye if you come off the street with a crowd of 10-12 people. There are truly some enjoyable things about visiting a traditional Dim Sum place. If you are adventurous and want to experience something that an Chinese family came from Minnesota to enjoy, come here. She learned to use chop sticks when she was 4! As stated if you are looking for typical suburban Chinese food go to a strip mall in another neighborhood - this is not for you. When I discovered that my daughter's significant other had never had Dim Sum we scouted around to expose him to the most authentic experience we could find. I have been to China Town in San Francisco and visit the one in Boston on a regular basis. OK- I'm not Asian but pretty much everyone else sitting around on a Monday afternoon enjoying Dim Sum was. ![]()
